MFR is a hands-on bodywork technique used to release fascia. Fascia is a network of tissue that holds everything in our body together and in the right place. Restrictions stress and tension can occur within the fascia which MFR can release. Excessive repetitive movements, poor posture or a single trauma can result in these restrictions causing stress and tension which can lead to pain.
Do you suffer from chronic pain? Maybe you have tried other therapies such a massage which has helped but didn’t have a lasting affect beyond a few weeks? Myofascial release treats the whole body and aims to restore balance, reduce restrictions which in turn can:
Instead of using massage to release the restrictions MFR uses minimal movements and holds, tuning into the fascia until it is ready to release. These holds can typically last for over 5 minutes. This is important when trying to cause a long lasting or permanent change. The difference in MFR is how it can influence the collagen and elastic components of the tissue.
How is MFR different to massage?
The key difference is that with massage we are trying to force a release in the body, whereas MFR is a non forceful approach that waits until the body is ready to release and causes a long term change.
What will happen, will I feel anything?
Sadie will have a consultation with you about your overall health before the MFR session. She will explain that the therapy is a hands on approach using a few 5-10 minute "holds" covering different areas of the whole body.
At the time of the therapy it’s important to try and encourage more self awareness and tune into the different sensations, feelings and emotions happening within the body. There is no need to analyse anything, just try and tune in and listen to the body. These sensations or feelings that are often experienced are caused by the fascia unwinding, adhesions releasing or tension relaxing. This can continue for up to 48 hrs depending on the progress made.
